Daniel Bazan is from Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1975 with a B.A. in economics. He was a Peace Corps Volunteer and U.N. Volunteer in Cameroon from 1978 to 1984. After Peace Corps, he worked as an economist with the Bureau of Labor Statistics in Dallas and in Houston. He entered the Foreign Service as a USIA officer in 1993. He entered the U.S. Department of State in 1996 and has served as a consular officer in Monterrey, Sao Paulo, Lisbon, Managua, Recife and Casablanca.
Daniel Bazan is married to Regina Barros Pontes and has a daughter, Lorena, both of Sao Paulo. His hobbies are amateur astronomy and music.
